Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses what is going on in a person’s current life, rather than what has led up to their difficulties, to help them develop more effective ways of coping with life. CBT is based on several core principles, including that Psychological problems are based on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and/or learned patterns of unhelpful behavior. We can help people suffering from psychological problems to learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives. Some of the strategies we use to change thinking patterns include learning to recognize distortions in thinking that are creating problems, and then reevaluate them in light of reality. We also help our patients gain a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others, use problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations and learn to develop a greater sense of confidence in their own abilities. Some of the strategies we use to change behavioral patterns include helping our patients face their fears instead of avoid them, use role playing to prepare for potentially problematic interactions with others and learn to calm their mind and relax their body. We work with our patients to develop an understanding of the problem and develop a custom treatment strategy.

Family & Relationship Counseling

Having a healthy, loving family with close-knit relationships is an important goal in life for most people, in part because it gives our own lives identity and purpose. Parents work hard to provide for their children while children learn, grow, and help as they are able. Each family member contributes and receives, and throughout this process, happiness, connection, and legacy are grown. Unfortunately, family life is never perfectly balanced. The family unit is a system where each person affects other people in the family. Sometimes, the effect is beneficial and other times it is not. When the family is unbalanced, it is often helpful to have outside help to find equilibrium. At Caring Therapists, our initial focus of family and relationship counseling is usually on developing skills for communication, self-control and understanding. During therapy sessions, we consider many factors when dealing with the family system, including cultural backgrounds, beliefs and values, personalities of all family members, and even involvement of the extended family. Some family members may change their behaviors more than others, but all members take responsibility for problems and use family strengths to help them deal with them. Caring Therapists may just be the help your family needs to regain its balance!

Grief Counseling

While grief is most commonly associated with people who have lost a loved one, people can experience grief after a loss of anything they love or hold dear such as a job loss, move or divorce for example. Some losses come as surprises, and life changes in a moment while other losses are expected and can be prepared for. Regardless of how the loss arises, every loss is unique and grief hits everyone in a different way. A variety of intense emotions often accompany grief and there is no normal way to feel during or after a loss. Anyone who is bereaved, may also feel sorrow, helplessness, anger, regret, loneliness, apathy, fatigue, shock, relief, guilt, impatience, confusion, restlessness, yearning and other feelings. Often people feel multiple feelings all at once, and some many even seem to contradict others. However you experience grief, it is okay and you should give yourself time to reflect upon what you have lost and how you feel about it. Caring Therapists can help you work through your feelings to recover from your loss and reconstruct a happy life.
